PSD Responds to COVID-19

As COVID-19 threatened to overwhelm hospitals, Cat Entertainment Services and the PSD Rental team actively worked to prepare medical facilities for an influx of patients.

The PSD Rental team worked closely with Cat Entertainment Services and medical facilities across Florida to deploy generators, temperature control solutions, and other vital equipment.

Most recently, seven generators, 70 tons of AC, multiple auxiliary fuel cells, and other vital equipment was deployed to four hospitals across Central Florida.

At Orlando Health, the Power Systems Rental team deployed 200 kW of generator power to a surge tent for overflow patients being tested for COVID-19. In addition, a 250-gallon auxiliary fuel cell, 2x10 ton AC's & distro for medical equipment inside the tent.

Leesburg Regional is utilizing a 60 kW generator to supply power to a surge tent. Also onsite, 1x20 ton AC & distro for medical equipment.

The Villages Regional is utilizing a 60 kW temporary power unit, 250-gallon auxiliary fuel cell, 1x20ton AC & distro for an overflow tent & medical equipment.

At Health First Viera hospital in Brevard County, 4x120 kW generators are supplying the power required for the AC to create negative pressure for COVID-19 isolation rooms. A 2500-gallon auxiliary fuel cell, and 2x500 gallon auxiliary fuel cells are onsite.

Safety Alert: Hand Injuries

By Steve Brown, Safety Director

Last month, two technicians, in two different divisions of the company, had hand injuries requiring hospitalization. These injuries show just a portion of the size of the problem. Almost half of the 16 injuries this year have been hand and finger injuries, and these results are similar to the last several years. Ring Power has formed a team of technicians from every division to find solutions to protect our people from these injuries. Very soon, the results of this team’s efforts will be communicated to all. In the meantime, there are things each of us can do, starting with being aware of how significant the problem is.

Looking at these recent injuries two things stand out. First, having the right gloves can minimize the severity of an injury, if not prevent it altogether. Although during this coronavirus situation we find a lot of new uses for nitrile gloves, they are almost NEVER the right glove to use when working at Ring Power. Choosing the right gloves for the task involves identifying the hazards that are present or even potentially present in the specific work you are about to do. Just as gloves are not one-size-fits-all, no style of gloves fits every task. This brings us to the second thing noted in recent injuries, a lack of a hazard analysis. In the vast majority of all injuries involving Ring Power team members no JHA was completed prior to the task. Taking the time to think through the sequence of the job, think about the hazards that each step presents and how to prevent those hazards from causing an injury is a worthwhile investment of time, and a Ring Power requirement. Document your JHA and revise it as necessary.

Supervisors, managers and leadmen must observe for proper glove use and JHA completion as required by Ring Power’s JHA procedure. Teammates also play a big role in keeping each other safe by reminding each other to work safely. Hand injuries can change your life. Think of all the things we do with our hands. Each of us has something to lose. Protect your hands.

QUESTION: Think about the hazards your hands are exposed to during your work. Do you ever have any of these hazards?

• Cut hazards from sharp edges or using blades?

• What kind of gloves can you wear to protect from this hazard?

• Will a Nitrile glove protect against this hazard?

• Abrasion hazards from rubbing against surfaces?

• What kind of glove can you wear to protect against this hazard?

• Chemical hazards?

• Are you using the right chemical glove?

• High heat or cold?

CARES Act Eases 401k Withdrawals

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected hundreds of millions of people, including members of the Ring Power family. The Act will allow you (regardless of your age) to take a “coronavirus-related distribution” in an amount up to $100,000 from your retirement account in 2020 without incurring the early withdrawal penalty. Attendees received a mix of classroom and field training focused on dozer safety, maintenance, operating procedures, and more. In the dirt, the students performed assigned tasks in a D6 XE. PSD Rental Gears Up for Hurricane Season

With everything going on with COVID-19, it's easy to forget that hurricane season is just around the corner. Forecasters are calling for an above-average season with 16 named storms, eight of which will become hurricanes. Of the eight hurricanes forecast, four are expected to become major hurricanes – Category 3, 4 or 5.

Though the season hasn’t started yet, the Power Systems Rental team works year-round to ensure customers are prepared should disaster strike.

To prepare for the diverse power requirements of customers within Ring Power’s territory, Power Systems Rental is constantly investing in new and pre-owned equipment to augment the generator rental fleet.

Technicians are currently busy performing site surveys, generator inspections and maintenance to ensure our customers are prepared should disaster strike.

Though no one can be certain what the season holds, the PSD Rental team is ready to support our customers before, during, and after the storm.
